Jovia Financial Credit Union, one of New York’s largest credit unions and a Top 100 credit union in the United States, recently unveiled its new financial literacy app and account, Curio, for parents and children at a special unveiling ceremony at The Long Island Children’s Museum in Garden City. Curio leverages interest in mobile devices to incentivize youth primarily 11 – 16 years in age to learn about money, banking, and savings. The app provides a fun and interactive way to understand how to enhance their financial wellbeing.

With Curio, parents can immediately start rewarding their children as they learn smart financial habits. The colorful and friendly mobile application and online interface was designed for young people giving them an interactive tool where they can request money from parents, set and track monthly budgets, get paid for chores and borrow money from parents in the form of a loan. In the Curio app, children also have access to financial educational and interactive videos.

Over 150 people attended the launch event including parents, children, Long Island school district administrators, Jovia executives and business community partners such as Commerce Plaza and the Long Island Nets. Peter Purpura, Vice President of Business Development for Jovia, delivered a special unveiling presentation of Curio which was followed by personal one-on-one demonstrations of the app with families and Jovia representatives.

“Jovia is always seeking innovative opportunities to assist families and the next generation of young people. Educating our youth about banking, finance and savings is essential in building a strong foundation for their future life. Curio is an amazing educational tool for kids to get involved with their parents in an engaging way to gain applicable skills that will set them up for financial success as they grow older,” said Purpura.

Curio was designed to be fully integrated within the credit union’s mobile banking and online platforms. The incentive reward-based program is available exclusively for Jovia Financial Credit Union patrons and those with a youth banking account.
