Long Island Nonprofit Leaders Gather for Regional Leadership Forum at Adelphi University

Jovia Financial Credit Union, ranked among the nation’s top 100 credit unions and a leading financial institution on Long Island, joined Adelphi University’s Center for Nonprofit Leadership to convene more than 200 nonprofit leaders at the Long Island Nonprofit Leadership Forum on March 16. The full-day summit, hosted on Adelphi University’s Garden City campus, reflected the shared commitment of both organizations to fostering collaboration, leadership development, and innovative solutions that benefit communities across Long Island.

Designed to strengthen and support the region’s nonprofit sector, the forum brought together professionals from across Long Island for a day of keynote presentations, panel discussions, breakout sessions, and networking focused on the evolving challenges and opportunities facing nonprofit organizations today. Topics included leadership collaboration, fundraising strategy, employee benefits, cybersecurity, and strengthening community partnerships.

The forum featured keynote presentations from Mark X. and John Cronin of Abilities Rising and Marty Lyons, founder of the Marty Lyons Foundation, who shared insights on leadership, purpose-driven organizations, and the power of mission-focused work. The event also included the presentation of the Excellence in Nonprofit Leadership Award to Stanfort J. Perry, Executive Director of AHRC Nassau, recognizing his outstanding contributions to serving individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities across Long Island.

Throughout the day, participants engaged in discussions with nonprofit and philanthropic leaders addressing pressing issues facing the sector, including workforce challenges, funding uncertainty, and strategies for strengthening relationships between nonprofits and grantmakers. Breakout sessions also offered practical guidance on board governance, donor communications, employee benefits, and cybersecurity protection for nonprofit organizations.

“This forum reflects the power of partnership in strengthening the nonprofit sector,” said Daniel Kaplan, PhD, Faculty Director of the Center for Nonprofit Leadership at Adelphi University. “We are grateful to Jovia for recognizing the importance of this work and supporting our mission to strengthen nonprofit leadership and the communities these organizations serve.”

“Nonprofits are on the front lines of addressing many of the most important challenges facing our region,” said Peter Pupura, Vice President of Business Development at Jovia. “We’re proud to partner with Adelphi University’s Center for Nonprofit Leadership to create a forum where leaders can connect, learn from one another, and take away ideas that help their organizations thrive.”
